Puerto Rico Aid - Toy Drive Fund

My name is Ben Marquis, I am a 17 year-old Senior at Culver Military Academy, in Culver, Indiana. I am collaborating with with my school counselor, Camilo Morales, a native of Puerto Rico. Camilo and I decided to team up and brainstorm on ways to help the people of Puerto Rico in their recovery from Hurricane Maria.
Camilo, being a retired US Army Drill Sergeant, suggested fundraising for the The Marines Toys For Tots in Puerto Rico. Camilo himself received a toy as a child growing up. Upon doing some research on the organization, I clearly saw their impact on people’s lives around the world.
After contacting Toys For Tots, we discovered we couldn’t directly fund raise for them using Go Fund Me, because it is a third party website. In light of this, we decided that we could still raise money and directly donate the proceeds via Go Fund Me, with Toys for Tots providing the on site logistics.
Our determination to donate to Toys For Tots, for distribution in Puerto Rico, is due to our belief that we can make a positive impact and send a message of love to our fellow citizens. The Toys for Tots organization has successfully donated tens of millions of toys to individuals and communities spanning the globe.
Children enduring hardship are forced to grow up prematurely. The circumstances natural disasters present cause children to miss out on the most vital time of their lives, a time of innocence, and affects their development. A toy can light up a child’s life by providing incentive for play and fun.
All funds raised will be directly donated to the Toys For Tots in Puerto Rico. This effort will touch the lives of many children during this time of hardship. Think of your donation as giving the joy of a toy to a child in Puerto Rico. Toys For Tots will utilize every single cent for purchasing and delivering the toys.
