For those of us that haven't been called to the frontlines of the battle against COVID-19, we can struggle to know what we can do to help. We felt the same way, and we were eager to use our God given gifts to help support those in the greatest need.
We are raising funds to manufacture clear polycarbonate boxes to protect front-line healthcare workers from the COVID-19 virus. The boxes create a barrier between the clinician and the patient during high-risk, aerosol-generating medical procedures such as intubations and tracheotomies. Our current goal is $3000 which will allow us to fulfill current request for 15 boxes we have from Milwaukee area hospitals for these devices. The cost per box is $200. THE NEED
Time is of the essence. Right now, we simply need to equip healthcare providers with the tools they need to protect themselves, and eliminate the normal timelines and barriers involved in procuring new equipment. Healthcare providers in Wisconsin are preparing themselves for the rise in new COVID cases that's expected to peak over the next couple weeks. We are working with Wisconsin and Milwaukee area healthcare providers that are currently waiting for delivery of these devices. Here is the current need we're addressing:

THE PROJECT
The CDC, WHO and many international guidelines agree that the highest risk of transmission of COVID-19 to healthcare providers is during aerosol-generating medical procedures such as intubations and tracheostomies. These transparent polycarbonate boxes create a barrier between the clinician and the patient during these high-risk medical procedures. As healthcare workers continue to struggle with shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE), and as they prepare for the spike of COVID-19 cases expected in the coming weeks, this simple solution helps protect healthcare providers most at risk.
Our team, inspired by projects like https://www.covidbox.org/, has been working directly with key clinicians and healthcare leaders at Children's Wisconsin – Milwaukee to refine the design and optimize the device for clinical use and effectiveness. We have finished prototyping and are ready for manufacturing of a efficient, inexpensive, and high-quality PPE device. The box is made of CNC routed polycarbonate plastic that can be flat packed and assembled one site with simple fasteners.

We’re a team of volunteers and organizations that are compiling our time and resources to meet this need. With this team we have the engineering skills, the clinical expertise, the machinery, the manufacturing knowledge, and material suppliers needed to design, develop, produce and distribute a device that will help protect our healthcare workers.
