The Phnom Penh Animal Welfare Society (PPAWS) needs to buy and outfit a mobile vet van. We are a volunteer organization based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. We help the monks in pagodas to care for the abandoned cats and dogs and for this we really need a mobile vet van. If we can raise the funds to buy a van then we can gut it and turn it into a mobile spay and neuter clinic. With more funds we can even pay for a part time vet to work in the van.
In Cambodia, the monks in the pagodas often care for orphans, the elderly or disabled and stray or abandoned animals. Many pagodas, however, cannot afford the time or resources to protect every animal that is brought to them (or born in the pagodas). Our aim is to assist the monks with this task.
A mobile vet van will allow us to visit pagodas and treat animals that have been abandoned there. The vet van will also be used to spay and neuter, once the van is in service we can schedule regular spaying and neutering not only in the pagoda but around the pagoda in the homes where the litters are born and then abandoned by pet owners who cannot cope with more animals to feed. If we are successful with our spay and neuter scheme then the van can be taken on trips into the provinces to educate and treat animals that are often forgotten because they are not in our vision.
For $15,000 we can buy a second hand van and start the retrofitting to transform it into a mobile vet van. The only Western Vet in Phnom Penh, Agrovet (agrovet-cambodia.com) will advise on the fitting of the van to ensure it will be practicable.
Any amount will help and will be received gratefully.
