The Project
I will be participating in the 33rd edition of the Marathon des Sables April 6th-16th 2018:
- Run 250 km multi-stage race in the Saharan desert
- Self-sufficient, carrying my own food and sleeping gear for the entire week

WHY

Many people ask me why?  To be honest, I wasn't able to elegantly answer this question at first.  Then I realized amongst all the reasons I have, the best answers are the simplest ones:

- Why not?
- Because I can!

I will be doing so while raising funds for an organization that helps with all the causes that are particularly dear to me:
- Helping our youth
- Promote physical activity
- Mental health

The War Amps - CHild AMPutee program
CHAMP, helps child amputees and their families surmount this additional challenge life decided to throw at them.

http://www.waramps.ca/ways-we-help/child-amputees/

When young kids are born missing a limb, nobody tells them "no, you can't do this".  They are unstoppable until they let others convince them otherwise.

When the going is gonna get tough for me in the desert, I'll be thinking about the fierce, tireless and courageous champs that are facing a life challenge much more daunting than a run in the desert.

They inspire me. I admire them and I want them to remain unstoppable.

Here is how CHAMP helps:

Financial Aid
They do it by assisting with the cost of everyday artificial limbs, constant adjustments and repairs.

CHAMP also considers recreational limbs and aids as necessities to child amputees.  After all, kids just want to do what their friends do!  That includes biking, swimming or play a musical instrument.

Seminars
Life-changing encounters for child amputees(and their parents) to meet other kids "just like me", learn to accept their amputation and develop a positive outlook on their futures.

Peer Support
The War Amps legacy is "amputees helping amputees".  Parents who have "been there" help new parents. Junior Counsellors, offer practical advice and personal insight into growing up with amputation; how do you deal with body image? staring? teasing?...

*While The War Amps does not offer a platform to raise funds online.  All funds raised through this campaign will be donated to The War Amps.
