A gift of "compassion" from your Family … support the critical  needs of children in this Mexican village. Help create conditions that promote learning in the Otates
primary school.

This is a small farming community (855 residents, 309 dwellings) in the Mexican state of Nayarit.   The village has no paved streets, free range chickens, and backyard livestock (cows, goats, horses).  Government records indicate that 45% of the families have no vehicle. Some dwellings have no piped water, no tv, and no washing machine. Only two homes are believed to have a computer and Internet access.

The six room elementary school is more than 65 years old and in unacceptable condition.  The school needs to have the leaking roof replaced and dining tables are needed. Many of the students now sit on the floor to eat lunch. Tropical temperatures that reach 100 degrees in December are a real obstacle.

Government funding is not available and the town’s people have no ability to fund these significant expenses. Farm wages are about $8 USD per day.  Yet, gasoline costs more than $3.50 USD per gallon.

Parents desperately want room air conditioners for each of the six classrooms.  However, professionals have evaluated the antiquated electrical system and decided that only two small air conditioners could be supported. These same technicians also found the existing electrical wiring to be a hazard for the children.  It needs to be totally replaced.

I am acquainted with this community (Otates) because I am a retiree from the USA and I live a significant part of the year in a community which is just six miles away.  I know several hard working Mexican families that have children who attend this school in Otates.

I am acutely aware of the importance of education to the future of these Mexican youngsters. The available resources are sparse. I want to help.  Will you join me? No contribution is too small. Compassionate gifts from a child or grandchild are especially encouraged.

I will distribute all “gofundme” collections directly to reputable tradesmen who will perform the needed services at the school.  I will personally monitor the  progress of renovations and pictures will be emailed to contributors. Your generosity will make a meaningful contribution to the education of these children!

If the goal of this account is exceeded, I will dedicate the overage to the schools in the next closest community, called Ixtapa.  Let’s get excited and help some wonderful children who deserve our support and the chance for a better life.  I promise to faithfully monitor the use of every penny you contribute.
