Typhoon Haiyan/Tan Relief Fund

On November 7, the super typhoon Haiyan (known as Yolanda in the Philippines) set a record as the strongest typhoon to make landfall in recorded history and the islands of Samar and Leyte took the brunt of this storm. Support from the Philippine government and major agencies have been slow and insufficient. Most of the relief efforts have been focused on Tacloban, and Ormoc appears to be on its own.

We have decided to launch our relief efforts to help our family in Ormoc with basic supplies such as food, water and hardware to patch up torn roofs. In the meantime, our family is dealing with the aftermath with no power and where food, water and basic supplies are scarce. Electricity and running water are not expected to be operational again until January 2014, making recovery efforts even more challenging for an already depleted infrastructure. I'm grateful beyond words to those who have already offered assistance!

Please help our family survive the horrific aftermath of this devastating natural disaster. For transparency, we will post updates on how the funds are being directly used to provide basic supplies. This is the only way that we can ensure that our family will be directly benefited, rather than waiting for help from large NGOs and relief agencies. And thanks in advance for your help--a gift in any amount makes a big difference!
