Gunny Boy's Heart Surgery

Many of you know of Nick and Gunny but this is for those of you that do not. Nick is a Marine Corps veteran with combat deployments, a federal police officer, son, and brother. He left home to pursue his career in service of his country at the age of 18, at the age of 24 he finally returned home, out of the military and as a federal police officer. Dealing with many of the challenges that veterans of war have to deal with Nick went searching for a dog to help support him through those dark days and nights. Working With Dark Dynasty Kennels he found Gunny who is now a 3, almost 4 year old pitbull who is the most loving and loyal dog on the planet. Gunny and Nick are one in the same and unless it is work related you do not and will not see Nick without Gunny.
While Nick was deployed for work with the federal police for 4 months we found out that Gunny has a rare heart condition where one of his valves does open and close properly. This causes the heart (which is a muscle) to harden, which will cause his heart to fail within 3 years. The procedure required to correct this has to be done by a heart specialist; the specialist will have to enter in through Gunny’s neck, follow an artery down into the heart and insert a stent. The Surgeon is in Nick’s home state Maryland, has been doing these procedures for 30 years and has a 98% success rate. With a successful surgery Gunny will be as good as new and will be expected to live his life to a full term, being that he is only 2 years old that is a lot of time! This is a very time sensitive matter, the longer it takes to have the procedure the more damage is done to the heart.
This procedure costs $5,000 and like most hard working people Nick cannot afford to take on such a cost alone!!
Nick has sacrificed a lot for his country which has in turn caused him to spend an extreme amount of time alone and away from his family. Gunny is Nick’s best friend, support system, and child(not dog).
