Operation Restore Tanker Lincoln

Donation protected

Hello my name is GySgt Jacob Cobb, USMC Retired.  I am representing this “GoFundMe” account on behalf of all the Marines, Sailors and families whom have served in the “Raider” community. My time spent serving as a United States Marine has positively influenced me over the years and I would like to give back a little something that means so much to the Marines who continue to serve today and to the ones who have left, retired, or gone before us.

First and foremost, I would like to express how grateful I am for you to take the time and interest in this fundraising campaign to save a car. The truth is that this “car” is not just a car. It is a piece of Marine Aerial Refueler Transport (VMGR) history, an Icon in iteself, and the root of three generations of memories. I am hoping that those memories and interest will create an outpouring of support from friends, family, the entire VMGR community, fellow Marines and service members alike, and even the general public and car enthusiasts who have the desire to come together without hesitation to support those of us who have served and those of us who continue to serve, in the restoration process of our own “Casualty of War”. Below is a link to the website created for this project. It has the entire researched history of the “Tanker Lincoln” aka “The Raider Mobile”. Please take the time to click on it and browse its contents. Please share this page and that website. Like it on Facebook, Tweet it on Twitter, put it out on your LinkedIn, Pin it on Pinterest,  Send it out to all your friends and family in your Together We Served, or E-Mail it out to everyone you know, and make this story and the link to this “GoFundMe “go viral in support of our efforts.

The objective is to portray the vehicle’s rich and colorful past, the car’s relationship with the squadron and it’s Marines both past and present, as it experiences peacetime operations as well as during time of war.

The mission is to illustrate the current plight of the car, and to advocate and fund a restoration and rebuild campaign. Tanker Lincoln, Raider Mobile, Old Breed, New Breed, it doesn’t matter.

Today the “Raider Mobile” is not operable. The engine turns over and runs intermittently, but is in dire need of a complete overhaul. The exterior and chassis is in sound condition except for the roof of the car which will require a donor. The interior of the car is intact but needs a full restoration.  It is my desire to preserve the legacy of the car and its history within the community, as it is a tie between the past and the present. Embodied in the below link is the story of a black 1969 Lincoln Continental with “suicide doors” through more than three decades of recreation and hard work, peace and war, triumph and tragedy. It is the underlying hope that those who read this will enjoy the history, and the memories of the past that it will create and restore for some, and will involve themselves in OPERATION RESTORE TANKER LINCOLN. Anything will help no amount is too small.  If you so choose to donate to this cause please leave your name and a short message, and years served if applicable, with your donation so we can historically account for those who supported me and made this possibility a reality. Your donation will be immortalized on a plaque that will be passed on with the cars history of not only how the “Raider Mobile” came to be but how it was rebuilt to be passed on for years to come. If you choose to stay anonymous that is fine as well we will just add up those funds and it will also be placed on the plaque, and in the history as such in the future.

In the research portion of this project  professionals were brought in for assessments and estimates. All of the restoration process will be done professionally by reputable automotive and restoration shops. There are a few agreements to donate some of their time, talents, and tools for this project but to do this in a way that will be done correctly and safely for the longevity of the car, the reality is that requires funding and time.

As I have had to wait till I retired to take this project on I have made the first donation to the project in the amout of my first retirment check in the amount of 1527.00

Please donate, and thank you in advance for your generosity and support. If you have anything from questions or concerns, further history, personal stories and or pictures that you would like to share and add to the project, please contact me at your convenience by clicking on the envelope (link) on the top right side of this page next to my name, or via the contact tab on the Raider Mobile wesite below, and I will contact you back via return e-mail when received.

 Semper Fidelis and Thank You
