Odie's Hemilaminectomy Surgery Fund

On August 29, we took Odie our 1 year old dog to VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center because his back was hunched and he was crying in pain. He had an X-ray done and we found out he has narrowing of disc space between lumbar vertebra 3-4 and 4-5. He was given tramadol and gabapentin for pain relief and then we were discharged. For this visit, we were charged $562.25.

At 2am, we woke up to him crying in pain. He was so umcomfortable. He was panting so we called VCA Emergency Center and we were told to bring him back in. During the second visit, he was given methadone and we were discharged. For this visit, we were charged $65.54. 

He did not sleep at all last night. He cried all night in pain. We brought him to Broad River Animal Hospital, our regular vet, and when Dr. Stramaglia saw Odie, he immediately called VCA Shoreline Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center. It was time crucial to get Odie an MRI as soon as possible.

We met with Dr. Galano and she did a neurology consult and concluded that he had to have an MRI. Odie had bloodwork before the MRI to make sure the correct antheshia was given to him. The estimated cost for the neurology consult, hospitalization setup, CBC W/10-14 chemistries, MRI study and Bair Hugger/hot dog ranges from $2,427.45 - $3,034.69. At the time 75% was due on spot. I used my care credit.

We just recieved a phone call from Dr. Galano, and the MRI showed that Odie has a disc rupture T13 L1. He will need hemilaminectomy surgery tomorrow. Dr. Galano told us the cost is about $4,500. My care credit is maxed out.

In total, the cost of the two emergency visits from last night and today's visits and the surgery on the low end will range  from $7,555.54 and on the high end will be around $8,200.
