October's Medical Fund

As many of you know, 2017 has been a rough year for me. I lost my oldest brother to cancer in January, and I lost my second of two cats to FIP in February. As a bright spot, I adopted two adorable kittens (October & Raj) in July. One month into our new life together, I noticed that little October, my 3 month old tabby, was having trouble breathing. I ran her over to the emergency vet hospital, hoping they would tell me that I was just an over-sensitive mom. Instead, they immediately put her on oxygen and started to monitor her. It turns out that she had pneumonia. The tests couldn't tell us whether the pneumonia was caused by something viral or something parasitic, but after 4 days on oxygen, she started to get better. She's been home over a month now, and was a trouper about taking many syringes of medicine (including one that is cherry flavored--yuck!).

October is named for the protagonist in Seanan McGuire’s "Toby Daye" book series. (They are a fun read, check them out.) Toby Daye is a fighter who doesn't let overwhelming odds get in her way, and often ends up almost losing her life in each book. Like her namesake, my little kitten is a fighter! Aside from the trouble breathing, she has been eating and playing, and has been generally happy throughout the whole ordeal.

As you all might imagine, after so much loss in the last year, and with how much I love my little kitten, I had to do all I could to try and see her through this. (No matter the money, there was nothing I could do for my brother or my other kittens.) Of course, 4 days of oxygen and a stay in the hospital don't come cheap, and I racked up over $6500 in charges. I was able to set up a medical credit card that allows me to pay this off over 6 months, and I am pulling money out of my meager savings account to cover all I can. That said, if anyone would be willing to chip in to help cover any part of these bills, October, her brother Raj, and I would be eternally grateful.

PS: I have been uploading pictures of October & Raj to Flickr. If you would like to take a look at some adorable kittens check out Photos of October & Raj
