So oakley has been given the once in a lifetime chance of going on an expedition in iceland. i have included some of the details of the trip below, part of the rules of going is fundraising the amount of the trip which is £1800 not including specialist clothes and shoes . So we have some exciting community things planned to hopefully cover a big part of the cost.  

There were only 12 children selected to have the opportunity to go on this trip so he is very lucky! 
 
Potentially this trip could put him on a total other path of life, it is going to be hard and it's going to be testing. Trekking and camping in testing terrain and weather, a few good life skills will definitly be put in place aswell as things that he will probably never see again EG whale watching in there natural envoirment

This cost includes the following:

1. Initial assessment day
2. Presentation launch night
3. 3 training weekends
4. Expedition phase
5. Flights
6. Food
7. Fuel
8. Group equipment
9. Medical equipment
10. Communications
11. Post expedition report for group
12. Individual expedition reports
13. Character reference for Employer (on going)
14. Post expedition presentation development
15. Post Expedition Dissemination Day at School
16. Post expedition CD
17. All meetings and liaison with students and staff during planning stages

18. Insurance
19. 24 hour back up in UK
20. Teacher free if more than 12 students take part
21. Travel to UK training and departure


Not included in the cost is the following:

1. Personal equipment- BPE will be able to get any personal equipment at trade cost. BPE has arrangements with Cotswold and Field and Trek.

Aims and Objectives

1. To undertake an expeditio
n in a remote area for the purposes of developing the following characteristics:

• Team work
• Independence
• Confidence
• Enterprise
• Leadership

2. To build up partnerships with local businesses and the community. To build an ongoing reputation for extra-curricular activities and personal development.
3. To carry out science field work projects linked to the school curriculum.
4. To undertake an adventurous trek.


The expedition phase is planned to cover 10 days.
There are three main phases:

1. Training in country
2. Fieldwork and trekking in country
3. Independent Travel Management

At this stage the timetable is only a proposed one.


The plan can also be changed to accommodate the group’s needs during the planning- it is their expedition.

School Day

Following the expedition a workshop led by the students held at the school to showcase the field work projects carried. Local schools to be invited. This day will be co-ordinateD by BPE.

Expedition Area


The expedition area and country to be determined by the school in consultation with Bull Precision Expeditions Ltd; the destination to be chosen in line with current Foreign and Commonwealth Office advice.

The expedition area will most likely on the western penininsula of Snaefellsnes. Linked to this will be travel and training in the southern aspect of Iceland.

Three weekends will be required to train the team.

In addition to this the expedition Leader will attend meetings with participants and the assistant leader as required.

There will also be an initial assessment day to examine the skills and qualities of the proposed candidates.
