Reese's Story, she's 1 in 5!

I've had the pleasure of knowing Reese Dyson since the day she was born, and since that day she has been a wonderful and amazing gift to our family. I am proud that she is my niece. Reese has one of the most tender hearts and curious minds I have seen in a kid her age. Reese is also one of the most self-determined kids I have ever met. From her love of martial arts, rock climbing, horseback riding, ice skating, snowboarding and pretty much any and every sport...nothing stops her! But one thing does hold Reese back, reading and writing. Reese has dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia, also known as a severe form of the disability. Since being diagnosed I have never heard her say that she cannot do something. This past year (imparticular) has been a tremendous challenge academically for her. Since changing from the public school system to, Benchmark School - a private school that specializes in teaching brite children with language based learning disabilites, I have seen a huge transformation. Reese has learned to read and spell using Benchmark's renowned Word Detective's program. Reese is now able to read and explain through many strategies how she can decode difficult words and spell them too!!
However, Reese's journey is just beginning. Not only does she have to work 10x harder than the average beginner reader but stay at it consistantly. The cost of sending her to a private school of this nature is extremely expensive and now it has been recomended she attend summer school. You see, not only is Reese dyslexic but she requires the highest teacher to student intervention available. So she can not have the summer time off for she may regress and fall behind again.
"This is a child with a very high IQ and has the potential to be anything she wants to be in this world, so long as early and CORRECT remediation takes place!"
All of her independent evaluations by well-respected specialists in the feild have reiterated that statement to our family numerous times. Please help our family raise the money for her to go to summer school and continue on her way to becoming a life long learner with the skills to work with (not against) her dyslexia, and blossom into the smart, talented, athletic, loving, and extremely inquisitive young lady that she is.
Please give as little or as much as you can to help put Reese through much needed summer school at Benchmark. Lets help her reach her full potential.
Not only is this cause personal because she is my niece but because I am this child 31 years ago. The difference between now and then is we now know that early remediation with a mutlisensorial based approach to learning makes all the difference in helping dyslexic children. I spent 37 years not understanding how I could know a subject but not write an "A worthy" paper, and have it marked as a C because of grammatical errors alone.
