At approximately 5:45 a.m. on July 12, 2017, Colleen Harrington, who was five-months pregnant at the time, was involved in a significant automobile accident in Cobb County, Georgia. Colleen was on her way to work at the OK Café, where she has been a member of the service team for 15 years. The accident was so horrific that she had to be extracted from her vehicle by the Jaws of Life.
Colleen was immediately transported to the hospital where it was discovered she had suffered devastating injuries, including bleeding and swelling on her brain, as well as a fractured pelvis. Tragically, her baby could not survive the traumatic injuries and was delivered stillborn.
Colleen had tried for 12 years to conceive this little miracle boy! His loss is beyond tragic. Sadly, due to her current condition, we are all unsure whether she is aware of the loss of her precious baby.
Her long-time boyfriend and life partner, Brandon, has been at the hospital with her every day waiting for Colleen to wake up.
When she first arrived at the hospital, she was completely intubated and placed into a medically induced coma. As of July 25th Colleen has begun to awaken.
According to her neurosurgeon, due to her horrific accident, Colleen has endured a traumatic brain injury (TBI– http://www.traumaticbraininjury.com/) and her prognosis is currently undefined.
Colleen has been trying to communicate with loved ones. She is moving her arms and legs independently but is still unable to follow a doctor’s commands. Brandon has been able to encourage her to chew ice and is getting her to attempt to speak, but indicators of her traumatic brain injury are clearly apparent.
Her prognosis dictates that Colleen will need many months of rehabilitation for recovery. Her family and friends were hopeful she could transition into the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, but sadly, due to insurance parameters, this move is currently impossible.
We, her many friends, ask that you contribute to this fund to provide the monetary resources for Colleen to receive the best care that she deserves.
