Oakton High School Outdoor Classroom

The Oakton High School community suffered a tremendous loss in the unexpected death of Jeanine Musgrove, a beloved biology and environmental science teacher. As any of her students can attest to, her true passion lay in helping the environment.  Jeanine understood that our natural resources are limited and tried to educate and inspire those around her on the importance of being a good steward of the earth.  As part of this education, she very often took her classes outside, rain or shine, to give her students a hands-on approach to learning.  I can remember her many times wishing that there were some kind of space for classes to congregate outside.  Thus, we felt that there could be no better tribute to Jeanine than building an outdoor classroom space on the grounds of Oakton High School.   

We have begun a project to make an outdoor classroom a reality.  A design has been submitted to the county that is essentially a mini-amphitheater.  It provides seating for at least one class of students and includes space for lecture, discussion, individual and group-work, and discovery.  The location for the outdoor classroom is slated to be in a glade within a wooded area facing the front doors of Oakton.   

In order to complete this project, we are asking for donations.  The project is estimated to cost around $15,000.  This will cover the cost of materials, labor, and perhaps funds for beautification as well.  We would be most grateful if you would consider making a donation in order to facilitate the building of this space to honor Jeanine.
