Nymiah's Lyme & Mold Eradication Fund!

After 15 years of illness (Chronic Lyme Disease and Mold/Bio-toxin Illness), there is now more hope than ever before that Nymiah can get well. But it will take physical and financial resources beyond Nymiah and Jacqueline's means, and after years of facing this Illness alone, they are finally reaching out for community support! They are hoping to raise $20,000 in order to pay for necessary repairs on their home (mold remediation), as well as Nymiah's continuing medical care. The Story:

 

As many of you know, Nymiah, a once healthy and vibrant adventure loving, backpacking, music making, singer/songwriter wild woman, has been ill for a very long time. After many years of misdiagnoses she was finally diagnosed with Chronic Lyme Disease about 2½ years ago.

 

Lyme Disease can affect the joints and tendons, muscles, nervous system, heart and brain, causing a wide range of symptoms that vary from person to person. If left undiagnosed and untreated it can develop into a debilitating, life crushing illness with complications that can sometimes be fatal. Nymiah's symptoms have included: intense joint, muscle and nerve pain, chronic, often debilitating fatigue, cognitive impairment, severe headaches, sound and light sensitivities, increased allergic reactions, depression/agitation, chronic insomnia, and vertigo to name a few.

 

In January of 2012 Nymiah's illness had progressed to the point (walking was difficult, the pain unrelenting and the cognitive impairment worse than ever before) that her doctor felt it was time she began IV antibiotic treatment (after 1½ years of herbal therapies that just weren't working). After many months of IV antibiotics, both Nymiah and her doctor were perplexed at the lack of progress. After much more testing Nymiah's doctor determined that in addition to Lyme she also has Mold/Bio-toxin Illness. This is a genetically based illness that makes her body unable to process and expel bio-toxins. These toxins can be found living on certain mold spores and other organic sources (like Lyme bacteria!). So the toxins just build up in her body making her sicker and sicker, and unable to heal from the Lyme Disease. The toxins need to be released from her body, and her exposure to the molds needs to be stopped. If Nymiah can get away from the mold toxins and release the toxins that have accumulated in her body, SHE WILL START TO FEEL BETTER!!

 

And what kinds of mold spores do these bio-toxins live on? The kind that grow inside of buildings! The kind living inside of Nymiah and Jacqueline's house!! It is no wonder that she has not been getting well: And while they are glad to finally understand why she has not been healing, it is quite overwhelming and costly to face what needs to be done:

 

The Solution:

 

The solution is two fold: 1) Nymiah is on a medication that binds with the bio-toxins to move them out of her body as she continues with the IV antibiotics. It is a long process, but after awhile she WILL begin to feel better. 2) Nymiah and Jacqueline's entire house must be cleared of any and all mold and mold spores. Since 80% of mold spores live in household dust, everything in the house must be cleaned (vacuumed, washed, bleached and rinsed: everything), and/or gotten rid of (as in fabric couches, beds, anything made of porous materials and deemed un-cleanable)! So, after three months of cleaning and two garage sales, where they let go of about 75% of what they own, they are now ready to move on to the house itself... Some walls must be rebuilt, new windows installed, insulation blown into all the exterior walls, kitchen and bathroom cabinets replaced, as well as new downspouts and a drainage system installed.

They have already been living away from their home for the past three months, and are being warmly housed at Mark, Nina, Talia and Eli's place. But since this whole process is taking longer than any of them could ever have imagined they may need to rent an apartment for a couple more months until the work on the house is done (this, in addition to continuing to pay the mortgage).

 

Nymiah's healthcare is already costing them $1000 a month and that is after what Medicare covers and not including other therapies that would be helpful. This just covers doctors' visits, compounded medications and supplements. And now they are estimating about $20,000 to make their house safe! Creating more debt is not an option as Nymiah's inability to work leaves them with no way to pay it back. So: after years of trying to pull themselves up by their own worn out bootstraps, they are ready to toss those old boots away and get a brand new pair of community built boots instead!
