Norma's Gastric Immunotherapy Fund

This is Norma to us she is our Lola (grandma) to others she is a dear friend, mother, sister, grandma, loving wife, acquaintance and inspiration. She is a name known throughout Gold Coast, Brisbane and NSW having an impact on every single person she's met even if she just smiled. She has been a singer for over 30 years singing every chance she gets whether it be karaoke or as a front act or even Filippino Australian Fundraisers.

But recently at the young age of 56 she was unfortunately diagnosed with a rare Stomach Cancer known as Gastric Adenoma last September after finding out she had shingles. This was a huge surprise to not only her but our whole family due to the fact she had shown no signs of any health issues in the past. In fact the most shocking part of the whole diagnosis was how her cancer was already heavily developed and had apparently been growing for years, yet we were all oblivious due to the symptoms being so closely related to everyday illnesses. These symptoms included; indigestion/stomach discomfort, bloated feeling (after eating), mild nausea, loss of appetite, heartburn, bleeding when going toilet and even simply vomiting. Everyone would have encountered some or all of these issues one time or another in their life..

Thus she started treating the Gastric Cancer with chemotherapy. She had been doing this for over 9 months, but just last month she was told that the chemotherapy has been doing nothing in attempting to subside the cancer instead it has continued to survive and slowly started to spread to other areas. She was basically told there was nothing else she could do. However my family weren’t going to give up on her, so we had been researching till we stumbled upon Keytruda Immuno Therapy(https://www.keytruda.com/) which has given people hope as it reduces the risk for death by 37% in patients with advanced or recurrent advanced gastric cancer in whom two or more previous chemotherapy regimens had failed. The only downfall with immunotherapy was the fact that this treatment was not supported by the government, which meant that the treatment cost would be approximately $5000 per visit. The cost is very high due to having a smaller number of stomach cancer patients to treat compared to that of melanoma or breast cancer, thus they are neglecting the rare cancers making them life threatening. Dr Tindle has experienced a similar situation where certain cancers were favoured. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-06-24/experimental-immunotherapy-drug-reduces-rare-tumour-size/7538520

Thus we strive to help Norma pay off her medical bills from the Immuno Therapy treatments, which will ultimately add up to over $20,000.
