Adam and I have talked about adoption for nearly 10 years. For many of those years, we thought is was a great thing for other families however never really considered it a reality for ourselves. Over the past couple of years we have talked more seriously about adopting a child or sibling group. Our heart really is to ensure a child a safe home. There are so many devastating stories of children who never experience a home filled with love and safety. Eventually we knew that we would adopt, however were unsure of the timing. We did not feel the time was right for us to pursue until now. It felt like, wait, wait, wait, ok.... Go!
Through all of the steps we are taking, God is clearly giving us direction and showing us that there is a specific plan for a child or children that we can offer a loving home to. To feel that God is choosing us to care for a young child, is so humbling and special.
Our initial thought was that we would adopt a child internationally and that we would have several years to save. Through meetings with agencies and prayer, we have clearly been lead to one agency. With this agency, the adoption will be moving much more quickly (potentially) then we ever expected. Basically, every other door has been closed and this door has been wide open with this agency. We have felt a specific direction through prayers, but unfortunately some agencies have responded like we are shooting for the moon, the odds are so slim. However, this one has everything and more than we expected.
So here we are now, trusting God to handle this. When some seemed to think what we felt was not available or possible; God is showing his plan is real.
Our thought was to start saving, meet with an agency to see fees and hopefully meet those payments along the way over the course of the typical international timeline. With the domestic program we are going through, the process requires more money up front, and has the potential to move very quickly. This just gives us much less time to save, and we feel that we should proceed now.
This process so far is really teaching us to set our pride aside. At this point, to be honest, we need financial help. Without others aiding us, we will not be able to accept a child once matched. We are unsure how fast this will happen. Through other agencies, the odds were slim to none, and the wait could have been 4-6 years. With this agency, we could be looking at a few months to a year.
Reading profiles and stories has really helped us to see that these children need loving homes. These families have become real people to us, real children, and real mother's with hopes for their babies. The reality for these kids are, that if people do not step up and are willing to offer a home, they just get older in an orphanage or rotated through foster homes, which lessons their chances of ever feeling the love of a real home.
Most of all we need your prayers, and appreciate all of your support.
