Help students from Nkondo Primary School attain their dream of secondary school by supporting the Nkondo Enrichment Program!

Background:

# of Nkondo Primary School students who passed their National Promotional Exams between 2006 and 2010, allowing progress to Secondary School: 0

# of Nkondo Primary School students who passed between 2011 and 2013, following enrollment in NEP: 58

# of Nkondo Primary School students who passed in 2014: 63 of 75
with two entering "excellent secondary schools" outside of the sector. This makes Nkondo I the "best performing secondary school in the sector" due to the hard work of the NEP staff, and supporters like you!

Something is working, and we can reach our goal -- # of Nkondo Primary School students to pass from 2015 and beyond: ALL!

The Nkondo Enrichment Program was started in Rwinkwavu, Rwanda in 2011 when Rwinkwavu Hospital doctors came together with Partners In Health staff to address the dire gaps in primary school achievement in this rural, agrarian community.

Over the past 3 years, we have transformed Nkondo students' and teachers' lives. Help us sustain and grow the program!

Some details:

The Nkondo Enrichment Program provides academic support to Primary 5 and Primary 6 students. It does so by harnessing the knowledge and energy of Rwinkwavu Hospital and community volunteers, and by training Nkondo Primary School teachers in child-centered methodologies.

Specifically, we:
- provide weekly academic support to 200 Primary 5 & 6 students in key academic areas tested on the grade 6 promotional exams: English, math, science, social studies and IT.

-  provide capacity building for targeted Nkondo Primary School teachers by conducting workshops on lesson planning, curriculum design, and course material preparation.

- engage and develop relationships with parents to encourage their active participation in their children's learning. We also link them to literacy courses in the community.

- provide scholarships to secondary school students who have excelled in the program and passed their exams but are unable to enter secondary school due to financial constraints.
