Hi! My name is Nicole, a very proud partner and volunteer with EmpowerThroughPlay-a non-profit profit program that collects new and used sneakers, cleats, and sports gear to benefit children in Refugee Camps and War-Torn countries. I am excited for our next mission trip to the Dominican Republic and Haiti in April 2018! After seeing incredible pictures online and wondering what I could do to help, I decided to reach out and was invited to be a part of the movement!
It means so much to be able to give back and work with the less fortunate. I know we have the potential to make a huge impact and I want to share it with my family and friends for added support. I have already begun collecting sneakers and cleats and need the support in getting them to the DR & Haiti! The more we raise, the more we help brighten young lives!
For me, being around children is a priceless gift. My heart remains youthful through interactions with them. Ten years ago, my journey began as a child counselor at my local YMCA. Five years into that position I was blessed to venture through the many spectrums of child growth and development, learning through their lens. My experience advanced from a counselor, babysitter, nanny, behavioral therapist, to an applied behavioral analyst helping children to better understand themselves. One constant principle that appears amongst children is their desire to be heard. I feel compelled to share my experiences, because every child deserves to voice their unique gift to the world.
EmpowerThroughPlay's programming focuses on healing communities and encouraging positive social interaction through health fitness and photography workshops designed for youth and young adults. The physical benefits of exercise manifest themselves mentally, in turn improving mental health, memory, focus, mood and the ability to cope. We believe exercise is medicine and can be used to build self-confidence, determination and overall quality of life. We believe that everyone deserves to look and feel their best and that the world would be a much better place if we helped more people be happy and healthy.
Each dollar, pair of athletic footwear and equipment is appreciated and given to those who truly need it most.
This is my first mission trip! Ironically, Dominican Republic and Haiti have always held a special place in my heart. Mission works is my commitment to serve.
*Here is a complete breakdown of what the donations will be used for
-The collection of sneakers, cleats, and equipment.
-The storage of the sneakers, cleat, and equipment donations.
-The transportation of the sneakers, cleats, equipment and myself to DR (via plane) and then across the Haitian border (via bus).
-The purchase of bags big and strong enough to hold and transport donations.
-Resources for donation boxes, flyers, and necessary materials to be used during sneaker drives at partnering establishments.
-Website maintenance.
