Nick's Stroke Recovery Fund

Donation protected
Anyone who has ever met Nick Rocha knows that he is a vibrant, passionate guy with a beautiful spirit. He’s a talented and caring social worker who serves at-risk youth, an outrageous dancer, and a dearly loved friend to hundreds of people across the United States and around the world.

On February 5, 2015, Nick was working on some writing in his Portland, Oregon, home when he suffered a stroke and multiple seizures. He has been hospitalized in the ICU since then and faces a long, challenging, and expensive recovery. Nick is only 36.

Nick’s many friends have created this page to gather donations to help pay for his medical expenses and provide support while he is unable to work. While Nick is rich in friendships, experiences, and dance moves, his choice to work as a public servant means he will need financial assistance.

Your donation will support his recovery and help him get back to his important work as a child and family therapist providing intensive counseling to kids with severe mental health needs who are at risk of being removed from their homes and families, placed in institutions, or surrendered to the juvenile delinquency system. These children frequently struggle with poverty, gang involvement, substance abuse, and commercial sexual exploitation, and they need people like Nick on their side.

Nick specializes in working with adolescents struggling with complex trauma, depression, suicidality, sexual identity, and development of personal identity. He provides clinical consultation and education about these issues to schools and community agencies, and facilitates trainings for professional groups about vicarious trauma and the importance of the practice and modeling of self-care. He takes a respectful, creative, strengths-based approach to his therapeutic work and has no doubt helped change many lives for the better.

Please support our effort to give back to Nick the love he shares with so many every day. We ask you to share his story via every social media outlet you can think of to help us garner support for our friend. Help us cover Nick’s medical expenses and lost pay to get him back on his feet and dancing.

Our goal is to raise $50,000. Any funds raised beyond what Nick needs for medical expenses and lost pay will be donated to the non-profit where he works.
