Mary Ellen Marks Work Shop

At the age of 11, my best friend’s mother,
introduced me to the world of photography.  Sharing with me her collection of analog cameras and the stories they took, I felt my first urge to snap.  While I was probably too young to realize the impact her simple act had made – and am still at a loss to adequately describe – the first steps on my endless journey to becoming a photographer were taken.

Eleven years later, photography has grown to consume my life.  It truly sustains me; making happy moments happier and hard moments more manageable. While academia and athletics were my foes, these shortcomings faded to the background when a camera was in my hand, for nothing came more natural to me than having a lens in front of my right eye. The hunger, the hunt, the prey and, finally, the execution: I shoot to live and live to shoot.  I have no idea what I would be doing with my life right now were it not for Judi – she mentored me, pushed me, criticized me, praised me and exposed me to the work of my idol, Mary Ellen Mark. In fact, my first project was entitled “Red Belt Odyssey” and was inspired by Miss Mark’s own “American Odyssey.”

Being the only passion I’ve had in life, it has been my singular driving force to succeed, particularly in the realms of analog and alternative processing.

Recently I was accepted into Mary Ellens Marks three day work shop. Held at her studio in SoHo New York.
15 were accepted into this work shop tought by the world renowned photographer. With such an amazing opportunity  This workshop is a combination of lecture, shooting, portfolio review & critique.
Mary Ellen will review students' portfolios and offer guidance on ongoing projects. She will discuss the basics of how her library is organized and other aspects of photography as a business.

To be able to attend this work shop, I need to raise $1500 by October 10th, 2014!

Thank you so much for supporting me.
