When these women first came to Britain, some struggled to find somewhere to live.

“No Blacks. No Irish. No Dogs.”

That’s what they remember seeing in windows.  Britain needed them, but landlords turned them away because of the colour of their skin.
They worked as nurses, carers, cleaners, teachers and factory workers. They looked after us and helped get the country back on its feet after the war.
Now, the ladies are in their 80s and 90s. And once again, they need somewhere to call home. Somewhere to chat, share a meal and feel part of a community.
Their little centre in South London has become that place.  Thanks to your incredible generosity, they now have a minibus to get them there. But when they arrive, there’s another problem.

The building isn’t properly set up for people with mobility issues. And the success of the minibus campaign brought so many new members that they’ve simply outgrown it.

So now we’re trying to find the ladies a new home.

Somewhere bigger. Somewhere accessible, with proper facilities. Somewhere they can make their own.

If you can donate, every penny will be gratefully received.  But we don’t just need money.

If you own a building, or know someone who might be able to help us find somewhere in South West London, please get in touch.  And if you can’t help with either, please share this.

Britain asked a lot of these women.

Maybe now we can do something for them.
