The Nelson Family's Story:

Many moons ago Mountain (American Citizen) and Joy (Canadian Citizen) fell madly in love. Soon after their love blossomed, they were married and began a family. Because of Mountain's history of activism and protesting in the US, the Canadian government was reluctant to allow him to become a citizen. They gave him a work permit and allowed him to become a "temporary resident".

Mountain was a temporary resident in Canada from 2001 - 2011. In 2011, Mountain gained the right to become a permanent resident, but Joy had a serious cancer scare and underwent preventative surgery. The Nelson family lost everything, including their rental home. They stayed with family long enough to get back on their feet. Because Joy did not have an income, she was unable to sponsor Mountain to stay in Canada and he lost his work permit, so Joy and Mountain moved to the US with their four children.

While in the US, they tried to apply for immigration for the kids and Joy, but Mountain did not have enough income to sponsor the family and they were denied. They had nowhere to go, so they went back to Canada once again and stayed in a yurt on Joy's sister's property. Things were tough, jobs were scarce and once again, after about a year of trying to get by, they were unable to secure enough yearly income, or the funds to apply for immigration.

Facing some severe consequences because Mountain had over stayed in Canada without a residency permit, the Nelsons again went back to the US where they hoped to finally overcome this severe challenge that had plagued their family for so many years. They moved to Iowa, where Mountain's family lives and once again, stayed with family until they could get back on their feet.

Mountain, determined to make things right for his family, secured a job and began working as much overtime as he could. His goal was to make enough money to be approved as an immigration sponsor for his wife and children. He succeeded at doing so and is ready to apply. Unfortunately, the process is very expensive. It has been near impossible for Mountain to save enough money for the process while trying to raise a family on a single income.

The Nelson family has to apply for their immigration within the next 60 days or Joy and her children will once again be forced to leave their home and belongings and return to Canada. They will have no home or income and will be forced to pick up the pieces once again. The children have friends, school, and lives here in Iowa; without your help, this vicious cycle will continue. Every family has the right to be legal residents of the same country. Please help the Nelson Family finally overcome their immigration challenge.
