Peace and Love Family!
I have teamed up with international artist JahSun, to gift you one of his paintings in exchange for your generosity and support.
(Click "Read More" for more info)

I am reaching out today to ask for assistance with raising the funds to attend Denver Integrative School of Massage to obtain my Holistic Massage Practitioner license in the Spring of 2018. This license will allow me to offer affordable and accesible Natural Medicine to communities of color. (I speak more on this below.)

JahSun has graciously offered to gift one of his paintings, custom-made, in exchange for your donation!! His work goes for hundreds, some thousands, of dollars - so I am deeply thankful for his offering and support.

Visit this link to see him in his creative process. https://www.instagram.com/faristudiosart/

HERE IS HOW IT WORKS:

1. JAHSUN ORIGINAL PAINTING

So if you donate 5$ you get 5 chance to win. If you donate 20$ you get 20 chances win.

Our minimum goal is $3500. If we reach this goal, on February 28th we will select a name. This person will recieve the custom-made JahSun painting!
This can be custom made for you, or as a gift to a Loved One.
**(Please specify if you would like to donate but are NOT interested in the painting. This gives others a greater chance.)

Please continue reading for more insight into the motivation behind all of this...

As with many things in the Western World, there is a disproportionate presence of people of color in the Holistic Massage and Bodywork field, and thus a disproportionate presence of massage access in non-white communities. Out of all the courses and educational spaces I have been in, I am usually the only Black person present - this is true in the U.S. and out. As People of the African Diaspora we have endured and have overcome so much, there is much pain and tension in the body as a result of both current and ancestral trauma (physical, emotional, nutritional, etc.) because of the systematic oppression implemented in this society. It is known that communities of color generally recieve the worst healthcare, while at the same time being targeted with unhealthy food and misleading health education.
The biggest motivation for obtaining my professional license is make Alternative Medicine more accessible to my Sisters and Brothers of the Diaspora and to all maginalized people, so that we can rehabilitate our nervous systems, revitalize our hearts, and reawaken our worth and power.

For the last 3 ½ years I have been studying massage and bodywork both through my own research and hands on practice, and through various workshop intensives, seminars, classes, and communal wisdom. There are a lot of different types of Massage Therapy Programs out there and it was important to me to explore massage before commiting to a school. These last years have been all about me carving out exactly the TYPE of bodywork I am most called to do.

Through research and practice I have come to realize my passion for modalities based Chinese Medicine such as Shiatsu and Thai Massage (which I have two Certifications in) and in using these to heal the Nervous System. The reason for me choosing Denver Integrative Massage School is because they they offer courses in my specialty, Thai Massage. This is very rare as Thai Massage is a Eastern Modality not usually taught in Western Massage Programs. This school also holds a Holistic point of view, instead of a “Spa” perspective like many programs.

All of the funds raised in this effort will go directly to my tuition. I will be relocating to Denver, and working to pay for rent/living expenses, while completing the fulltime Massage Program - so any support towards tuition is extremely helpful.
Love to those I have worked with in the past and those I may work with in the future. Whether you donate financially or in the form of advice and guidance, I deeply appreciate your support!
