Natalie's European Musical Adventure!
HI, my name is Natalie Myers, and I am a 14 year old girl living in the picturesque little village of Suttons Bay, Michigan. As a freshman, I have maintained a 4.0 for the past 2 years. I won our county spelling bee last year, too! I love to play the French horn and wish to pursue my music studies at my dream college - the University of Michigan! I am grateful for many things that music brings to my life - fellowship, artistic expression and for the joy it brings my family when they see my performances. My mom gives up a lot so she can provide opportunities for me (and my sister, a sophomore bassoonist), which include private lessons, music camps, repairing and helping us buy instruments of our very own, and driving us to and from rehearsals, auditions and lessons. I love the musical life and I stay very busy! I play piano for our school jazz band and horn in my high school concert band and with two adult ensembles: the Northport Community Band and the Encore Winds of Traverse City. I try out for everything! Camp, All-State, Honors Band, Solo and Ensemble, you name it! This summer I would like to play my horn as part of the Blue Lake International Youth Symphony Orchestra in 3 countries in Europe. With the cost being $6,250, I will have to raise some serious money. My mom can help, but she can't afford the entire cost, so I will be paying the deposit of $750 with my own money, because my mom taught us that if we have our "own skin in the game" that things like this will be more meaningful.
