Natalia’s Network

This gofundme page was set up to help Mario Lupia and Kristen Dilorenzo, the parents of Natalia Lupia, with any medical expenses.

Natalia is the sweetest, funniest, most outgoing 7 year old you will ever meet. She brings joy, smiles and laughter to everyone she is around.

Natalia is a foo foo girlie girl, but loves to compete and was actively engaged in playing flag football and mostly recently cracking her softball bat for the Staten Island Legacy traveling softball team for 8 year olds. She also, was enrolled in dance class and just a few months ago joined gymnastics.

While at home practicing for her class, she hurt her neck doing a tumble-salt. That was about 8 weeks ago. After several weeks she still had a sore stiff neck and was taken for an MRI.

Four days after the MRI she was admitted to NY Presbyterian Hospital for further testing.

The results of the MRI showed a tumor growing inside her cervical spine.

The tumor has lytic activity, which means it infiltrates and breaks apart the bone.
Natalia went through additional testing, including Pet scans, CT-scans, X-rays and blood tests.

The results showed aggressive activity in her cervical spine spreading to the lymph nodes in her neck, chest and belly. It also showed a lesion on the left side of her pelvis and activity in her spleen. An immediate biopsy surgery was scheduled to remove the lymph nodes in her neck for testing.

After the biopsy of her lymph nodes in her neck, she was diagnosed with Multi-system Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis.

She is currently under the care of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Natalia underwent a second surgery at MSK to have a special Medi-Port placed so she can receive her Chemo therapy. She started her treatment of Chemo therapy, steroids, and 5 other medications the following week.

The doctors at Sloan have indicated this is treatable but it is going to be a long battle. Her treatments will last at least year or more and will also include monthly scans.

Her loving family remain strong, tight knit and determined that there is light at the end of this tunnel and soon the storm they are bracing together will once again turn into days of sunshine and rainbows and Talia will once again be able to do all the things she loves doing including dancing, playing softball, swimming and most of all riding on roller coasters.

Talia is one strong, spirited, tough little cookie and has not
complained at all during any of this.

She cannot continue to attend school (didn’t even complain about that-lol) but will start
home instruction soon and looks forward to returning to her school and classmates next year.

She and her family thank everyone for their continued outpouring of love, caring, support and thoughtfulness during this challenging time.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
