NYC must administer the SHSAT as required by law

No SHSAT dates?
No SHSAT plan?
Worried about high school admissions? About the future of G&T education?
Angry?
Confused?

-- We too!

We are a group of concerned NYC parents, raising money to take legal action to compel NYC DOE Chancellor Carranza and NYC Mayor De Blasio to obey the law and publish a plan and dates for the SHSAT exam. We are also concerned about the situation with screened high schools.

NYC DOE Chancellor Richard Carranza and NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio for years have been on a crusade to eliminate the SHSAT tests, which determine admission to several specialized high schools in NYC. By NY State Law (The 1972 Hecht-Calandra Act), admission to those schools must be based on a single test, the SHSAT.
On June 16, 2020, under the NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio and NYC Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza, the Department of Education announced the SHSAT exam would take place on November 7 and 8, 2020. These dates were published in the 2020-2021 NYC High School Handbook and on the DOE website. Since then, it has been impossible to register for the test. There is no signup links and no opportunities to gather concrete information.

Chancellor Carranza stated that he would announce an update to the SHSAT test administration by mid to late October.
Every year the UFT posts notice looking for proctors for the SHSAT. This year there has still not been a “proctor engagement” process. There were no notices posted, meaning there’s no planned test date anytime soon. Carranza NEVER intended to hold this test on Nov 7/8. No school buildings were engaged in NYC. There was never an Intent to administer this exam!

On November 5, when asked about the SHSAT, Mayor de Blasio said, "In the next week or two, we’re going to have updates for people on how we’re going to handle that going forward."

On November 13, De Blasio said the SHSAT tests "might be given online". “It will be administered,” he said, without offering any timetable. “The timing we’re working on.” “We’ve got to first deal with this immediate challenge right now that we’re talking about,” he said.

We are a group of concerned NYC parents, raising money to take legal action to compel NYC DOE Chancellor Carranza and NYC Mayor De Blasio to obey the law and publish a plan and dates for the SHSAT exam. Act now, please, donate as you can, and please remember to share.

The money will be used for attorney fees, court fees, and fundraising. Please remember to share this campaign!
