NYABPsi for Social Justice/Students

2018 marks 50 years of service for the New York Association of Black Psychologists (NYABPsi)! Founded in 1968, the same year as the national Association of Black Psychologists, the local New York chapter has proudly served the NY Metropolitan community, students, and professionals. The mission of NYABPsi includes educating and intervening within the Black community through pro-bono services, and supporting the next generation of Black Psychologists to succeed through undergraduate and graduate school. On this 50th anniversary, help NYABPsi raise the funds necessary to continue these outreach projects!  Here are some highlights:  Commitment to Social Justice and Community Outreach: NYABPsi has provided pro-bono relief efforts to survivors of Hurricane Katrina, the 2010 Haiti Earthquake, and Hurricane Sandy; offered education and support groups for the Sickle Cell community; and collaborated with numerous professional and grassroots organizations to decrease stigma about mental health in the Black community, link individuals to quality, culturally-appropriate mental health services, raise awareness of mental health issues affecting the Black community, and provide support to incarcerated/formerly incarcerated individuals and those victimized by police brutality. Commitment to Students: NYABPsi has offered student scholarships ever year consecutively since 2006 and through the "Nia Project",  aimed to ensure global African-centered leadership in psychology through providing students with grant funding and mentorship to design and implement a community based mental health project.  In its 50th anniversary year, you are invited to join the New York Association of Black Psychologists in serving the community and students through pro-bono projects and making a difference in the lives of others through the field of mental health! This campaign is spearheaded by two current NYABPsi Board members/Past Presidents (in Brooklyn), one of whom is the current co-treasurer. Funds are being deposited directly into the NYABPsi account and will be used towards the Student Scholarship fund (to send a student each summer to the national convention for the Association of Black Psychologists) as well as pro-bono mental-health awareness programs conducted by NYABPsi throughout the NYC community.
