Help! We could lose up to $10,000 if we don't reach out to our supporters today!
New Life Animal Sanctuary in Lake Elsinore, California is one of only two animal sanctuaries in the country to focus its mission on providing lifetime care for animals who have been saved from animal testing laboratories, and the only one to house mice and rats. In addition to our tiny rodent friends, we are home to dozens of rabbits, cats, pigs, chickens, cows, llamas, donkeys, and others who have been victims of exploitation.
Last week, we had quite a scare. The massive Holy Fire in the Cleveland National Forest was swiftly moving toward the sanctuary. Many homes in Lake Elsinore were under voluntary or mandatory evacuation orders, and we feared we would have to move well over 100 animals out of harm's way. While we do have an evacuation plan, when we have to divert money toward an evacuation or emergency, it comes from the fund that we use to provide food, bedding, vet care, and enrichment for our animals. We can't let one emergency wipe out our operating fund.
We got lucky last week. We contacted our volunteers and asked them to be ready the following morning to evacuate, but overnight, the fire began to move away. Even though we'd already incurred some expense, at least we didn't have to evacuate. We are in a fire-prone area, and next time we may not be so lucky. There are also any number of other circumstances where an emergency fund could save lives - too many to list here.
Three generous donors have pledged to provide up to $10,000 if we can match it with donations from our supporters by August 31st. We will lose anything we can't match. So if you donate $10, we get $20. Your $50 is $100 to us, and so on. Those funds would go a long way toward helping us replenish our general fund and provide an extra layer of security in case of emergency.
Will you help us help the animals? We'd be so grateful!
