Myra’s Angels Foundation (MAF) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to ensure that homeless and foster children in transition are provided the best opportunity to stay focused and productive in life. MAF provides bags, Angel Care Packs, to children ages 0-18, filled with basic essential items such as toiletries, blankets, clothing items, and comfort items.
There is a continued rise of children entering foster care and homelessness. In the United States, there are currently over 420,000 children in foster care, between the ages of infancy and eighteen years old, and an estimated 2.5 million or 1 in 30 children are considered homeless.
The transition to foster care and/or homelessness can be a difficult experience due to their lack of personal belongings, comfortable clothing and personal care items. These children experience tremendous psychological and emotional stress during this transition period and often seek some semblance of normalcy that they can call something their own. Transitioning with few to no items depletes their confidence and makes it difficult for them to focus in life, in school, and/or maintain relationships with people who can help them during difficult times.
MAF was founded by Myra John, a pediatric nurse for 15 years. Myra has worked with children within the hospital system for several years. She has encountered children born without parents. After leaving the bedside and working within the school system, she realized the tremendous need for support. She remembers asking herself, “What are we going to do about this?” Nicole Lane, also a pediatric nurse, long-time friend and co-worker of Myra’s, joined MAF to help make a difference in the lives of these children. Together as a team, MAF will provide homeless and foster youth with filled backpacks, giving them something they can call their own!
Thousands of children are faced with stressful situations where they are taken and separated from their parents and families. Belongings and homes are taken from them, and they have nothing to provide comfort. These Angels are afraid, stressed, and in need of support, so please help us make an impact and difference in their lives.
100% of the donations raised will allow us to fill our bags with new items of toiletries, blankets, comfort items. Donations of any amount are appreciated. Help us meet our goal and get the word out about Myra’s Angels Foundation!
