My wife Darlene like most women found a problem with her mamogram. That lead to a biopsy which showed as cancer. We got a call 2 days before Christmas to say she had breast cancer. Alarming yes but we didnt worry much. The way it was explained to us, is she had stage 2 invasive breast cancer. She had surgery to remove the tumor, all went well, and 3 biopsies were sent off for test all came back as negitive for cancer. Great we thought!
While in surgery her heartrate dropped below 30 beats so surgery was put on hold till a cardiologist could see her. She got the ok for anesthsia and the surgery was done.
After that we was told she had to go see radiology and do radiology treatments for a certain amount of time. A few days later after they had tested the tumor they had removed we was told it was a different type of cancer than first thougt. So on to the Oncologist. We didnt expect that.
Dr. Barnes the Oncologist had not recieved the results of an Oncotype test so was limited at what he could tell us. He ordered a CAT scan, a CT scan, and now a PET scan. The oncotype test will tell us what the risk are of her cancer coming back, and the other scans will tell us if it has spread anywhere else, as the type cancer she has they said can spread to anywhere not just the breast.
The results of the CAT scan or CT scan showed 2 spots on her lungs, she is a smoker and has had sugery on each breast, so this could be scar tissue we are not sure yet.
Right now its seems her treatments will be chemo and radiation which my insurance will cover 100%.
There could possibly be another surgery if we find that somethings is wrong with her lungs.
I have paid out of pocket expenses over $1500 now. I have 2 credit cards which I am using to pay these bills but they are starting to pile up. My credit score has dropped drastically because my utilization of cards is getting out of hand.
I hope that this will not break us and I can handle a bit more.
I am asking $4000 as I do not know how much this will cost us. I just know any donations we get that does not have to be used, will be donated to the American Cancer Society. I will be sure to put here the amounts used and the amounts that may be donated elsewhere for cancer centers.
My wife is 64 and a great person who deserves the best I can give her. I will do everything I can to see to it she gets the best care possible, and hopefully we can beat this and live to share our story with others.
My family has been a big supporter to help with travel to appointments so I dont have to miss work.
Our situation is not dier at this moment and I still have funds on my credit cards, I just dont know how long before we start going in the hole.
I appreciate any and all help we get and promise these funds will be used to help my wife beat this disease.
