MyWhereAbouts - MDS 2013
On the 5th
April 2013 John & Andy will be set off running the 28th Marathon Des Sables
in aid of the Coeliac's Society, Alzheimer's UK along with donations also going
to their local sports clubs, (Egerton Football Club & Poynton Sports Club)
and we are asking for your support.
The Challenge:
The Marathon Des Sables is a 6 day 165 mile self-sufficient endurance race
across the Sahara Desert in 40 degree heat! Billed as "The toughest foot race
on the planet"
John & Andy will need to carry all their food and supplies for the duration
of the race with water being rationed to them on a daily basis.
Finishing the Marathon Des Sables will conclude a 2 year journey for the pair
that started with Andy "˜running' the 2010 Nantwich 5km Santa Dash and subsequently
deciding to change his approach to life then John quickly agreeing to join him
on the challenge.
The Journey so far.....
From a standing start in the December 2010, Andy weighed in at just over 15st,
smoked too many cigarettes and had taste for a daily intake of Vina Sol!
Living a significantly healthier and more active life style than Andy, John
tipped the scales at 15.2st but similar to Andy, John worked away a lot and
liked to have a drink or 2 or 3 or 4........
Achievements & Races
So since December 2010, Andy has stopped smoking, they've ran the following
races, training hard and on 1st January 2012 they kicked alcohol into touch
with neither of them touching a drop since then which some of you will know is
a pretty good effort from them both!
They've lost a combined weight of 5st with Andy now weighing 12st and Jon 13st
and to be fair to John he is taller than Andy so will always carry a few extra
pounds :-)
