Tina Messina means a lot to many people. She is a wife, a mother and a teacher. She has been caring for children, ages 2-5, at the Language Enrichment Center (LEC) in Scotch Plains, NJ since 2007.
Tina gives an enormous amount of energy and love to the children that surround her. If you ask any parent about the school, her name will surely come up. If you ask any child about her, they will surely say “I Love Ms. Tina”. She loves the children in such a way that they see her as family, and to that point, she is our family also. Though they are little, our children notice her absence because her presence is so big. Some of the children have been with her for years - some have just started their journey. In either case, we know they look forward to her hugs, her smiles and her assurance that all will be okay.
Ms. Tina rarely, if ever, misses a day at the school. That is why it came as such a shock when we received word of her illness. She went to the hospital due to pneumonia and with further testing she was soon diagnosed with Peritoneal Cancer. Her family is by her side to give her support during this tough time. Unfortunately, as parents we want to be there for her, but we cannot… not in that way. Our goal is to support her through this journey and to ease the financial burden. Teachers are so much more than just a title. They are our children's everything when we are not present. We feel as though it is part of our duty to give back to someone who has given so much to our children.
