"Moved 2 Care" Mobile Clinic

Out of 54 professional entries, our design team (Patrick Morgan, Simon Morgan, and Jhanea Williams) was awarded by the Building Trust International the 2014 Moved 2 Care Design award. As part of that award, we will be working with BTI to build our mobile health clinic in Cambodia, scheduled for October 2014.
Using the trailer pictured above, we will attach a converted cargo container that will act as a prefabricated core. The prefab core opens up to reveal circulation space and bold colours which are used to differentiate areas. Local building skills are then encouraged to create shading and rain protection elements for waiting areas.

The purpose of this GoFundMe campaign is to assist us with travel expenses so that we can be an active part of the construction process in Phnom Penh. Any funds raised beyond our travel expenses will go directly to the construction of the project.
The Reason For Our Project:
In a region with an average of less than 1 physician per 4,000 individuals, the need for quality and broad ranging care is immense. While surgical issues such as infant deaths, life threatening injuries, and cancer treatment are a small portion of the clinic's medical burden, they are a large time burden for providers and an even more significant spatial burden as surgical equipment is cumbersome. For these reasons, a full one third of clinical space has been dedicated to surgical intervention. The remaining two-thirds of space is designed to provide preventative, and ongoing, monitoring and treatment. The population requiring these interventions makes up the majority of our clinical burden, but requires a much smaller clinical space for appropriate intervention. In fact, the majority of interventions can take place outside of the clinical space, where a full 130 of the 150 total square meters are dedicated to preventative medicine, nutritional education, and healthy lifestyle lessons. By integrating clinical space into community space, the barrier to access can be removed and healthcare can be delivered safely, effectively, and can generate dramatic improvements on health outcomes for the rural South East Asian population
Risks & Challenges:
While BTI is not new to working in Cambodia, the design team is. The final weeks of the project are a tremendous risk, and the entire project is a challenge, but that's part of the fun. As we (the design team) set off to Cambodia to help build this structure, so many components are required to come together in just a matter of weeks. Our team is excited about the challenge though, and with Building Trust International's guidance, we will successfully build the facility and hand it over to the Cambodian partners.
