Mosaic Farm-to-School Program

The Mosaic Farm-to-School Exchange Program is a work/trade CSA for middle schoolers in Bennington, VT to learn invaluable skills in growing, preparing and preserving their own food. For every 5 hours of work, students receive a box of fresh, organic produce, herbs or value-added goods they create themselves. 


We are blessed with a bright, creative and highly-motivated group of students who are ready to face the challenges of food production and take ownership of their eating habits. 

Our mission is simple: help more students become involved in the food system. This campaign will raise funds to continue food education during the Winter months by installing an indoor aquaponics system with the help of a local non-profit, Unity Aquaponics. 

40 Gallon Fish Tank + Pump & Accessorries (donated)
4 ft. homemade light source (donated) 

$1,300: Aquaponic System (parts +labor) 
 
$600: On-site FTS coordinator (10-week session) 

Vermont's Flexible Pathways Initiative stated in Act 77 is reshaping the way students are learning. They are now able to demonstrate their proficiencies in the common core through experiences they choose to have outside of the classroom.  An aquaponics system would provide countless opportunities for students to gather evidence of their learning in STEM subjects.
