Hola!

Agradezco mucho tu apoyo, puedes:

1.- Unirte a redes y compartir publicaciones

ENGLISH VERSION

Hi!

I am Gabriela Costa, a young Ecuadorian lawyer committed and passionate about the environment! I was selected to join the "Sail for Climate Action" project as the Ecuadorian participant on board.

I started this campaign to be able to fund my participation in the project. The aim of it is to bring the voice of youth from Latin America onboard the international dialogues on Climate Change. We will travel sustainably, sailing from Cartagena de Indias, Colombia on February 20th, to Europe. This is our concrete action to reduce our carbon emisions.

These international dialogues are called “intersessional” or “SB52”, which will take place in Bonn, Germany during may & june. This are like preparation meetings before the COP on Climate Change also knows as Conference of the Parties 26 or UNFCCC 2020 Conference on Climate Change. Our journey will take 4 months during which we will attend several meetings  and also organize our own events.

I will work actively synthesizing inputs from civil society in order to build a statement from Ecuador-LAC to be presented to the major groups that attend the negotiation meetings of the COP26. The COP26 is relevant because the commitments of the Paris Agreement (2015) will be reviewed and we all hope for serious commitments and long term solutions regarding reducing global CO2 emissions.

THE EXPECTED RESULTS ARE:

-       A Latin-American position on Climate Change to be presented at the inter-sessional SB52 prior to the COP26 (civil society is invited to get actively involved through mailing lists and social media).

-        A Youth Latin-American Network active on Climate Change

-       Capacity Building & Knowledge Sharing Activities

-      Content and narrative sharing trough mailing list,  social media and a  documentary

We seek to raise awareness, inspiration, discussion and actions from youth and civil society in Latin American Countries (LAC) to encourage best practices and long-lasting solutions for healthier ecosystems. I am ready to invest time and energy in order to work on spreading Ecuadorian & LAC experiences, knowledge, narratives and a statement from LAC civil society prior to the COP26.

By following our efforts in social media and in our documentary you will learn about climate change effects in LAC and about our quest in this Climate Change international decision-making process. I expect that the project enables much more interest, conversations and debates about climate change.

Finally, this learning journey needs your help and support. Would you like to support us by following our social media channels, subscribing to mailing lists &/or contributing to my journey to become real? My suggesting contribution is $5. We won't make it without collective efforts. If you cannot contribute, please share this with those you think they might.

How can I contribute to the project?

I have worked and volunteer with different vulnerable groups in Ecuador, including the elderly and kids in a vulnerable situation, refugee solicitors, and communities and indigenous from the Amazonia, Andes, and Coast of Ecuador. My research interests are sustainable production and consumption, climate change and sustainable development goals. From an academic point, I got a master's in environmental governance from which I got interested in developing further my skills in capacity building, facilitation, participatory methods, planning, and advisory. I have a natural tendency on following the international decision process such as HLPF on SDGs and Climate Change Summits. Nowadays, I work as a teacher at a local University, on which I enjoy supporting students to develop initiatives related to environment and development.

The objectives of the project are:

1.- To generate a platform for Latin American youth to raise their voices and participate in an international dialogue prior to the COP26 on Climate Change.  We will work on connecting with civil society organizations to strengthen the inputs for the position to be written.

2.- To execute a Knowledge-sharing and capacity building program between participants holding workshops and training during the journey to prepare the activities, narratives, and documents needed during the Intersessional SB 52  in Bonn, Germany. Includes attending meetings at Universities, Research Institutes, private sector, and Ministries.

3.- To build a resilient transatlantic network of youth during the project and by joining the children and youth constituency YOUNGO at SB52, allowing them to further develop additional cross-Atlantic bonds fostering cross-cultural understanding, and collaboration.
