On February 9, 2018 each of us received a life changing call from my brother Christopher, Cancer had again found it's way to this generation of our family.
In the depth of winter, the height of his businesses busy season in Killington, Chris was diagnosed with Stage III Cancer, was in need of major abdominal surgery and was potentially facing months of chemo therapy and a long recovery.
Worse, the limited insurance plan of small business people and no income replacement or disability coverage leaves Chris and his family facing mounting bills, loss of income for both he and Debbie for time lost from work, paying others to keep the businesses operating and all the travel to and from the medical appointments.
Chris is well known in the Rutland/Killington area, a part of the fabric of the community one could say. People who know Chris and our family have offered love, support, prayers and a true desire to help.
Many have asked what they can do to help Chris and Debbie in this long fight. Some want to hold fundraising events down the road, wonderful ideas that will take time and energy to pull together and people will have opportunity to assist, support and come together for food, fun, music and fundraising.
Our Family is a proud, 6th generation Vermont family with Rutland and Vermont Strong resolve. We are not accustom to asking for this kind of help in this way.
However, the loss of income and extraordinary medical & travel expenses are already upon Chris & Debbie, so we have come together to offer people this Go Fund Me opportunity to help. We are happy to report that Chris's surgery was successful, perhaps the best result that we could have hoped for a Stage III cancer situation. The surgeons got all four tumors and most importantly determined it has not spread to other organs, quite a blessing at this point.
But the road to recovery remains difficult, the expenses extraordinary and the loss of income poorly timed. Please help if you are able, share our news on your social media and make others aware of this opportunity to help Chris and Debbie in their fight.
