Monies for Medical Machinery
Dear friends, family, and all others with generous hearts,
When we first started helping the people of Awka, Nigeria and its surrounding areas, Fr. Jerome was in Long Island, NY telling us stories about this region and its troubles. 
In case you didn't know, this area of eastern Nigeria is known as Biafra, which was subjected to genocidal war and the political use of famine to control and disable people in the communities. Currently, violence against peaceful protesters continues.
Fr. Jerome, who organized our 2014 efforts, continues working on medical missions, specifically to improve medical care in Awka, as well as providing access to this care for remote jungle villages.
Fr. Jerome has been appointed CEO and Manager of Regina Caeli Specialist Hospital in Awka. This is the only hospital in the area that accepts all who ask for help (private and government hospitals require financial/insurance proof before care is rendered).
The reality is that with little resources not much can be done. However, with few resources he still accomplished a lot: opening free clinics to 5 outlying areas, and providing low cost care at the main hospital. A Father on a mission!!!
Over the last 2 years here is what a "Father on a Mission" looks like:
· ENT (ears, nose, and throat) equipment was purchased to treat ear disease.
· New digital x-ray equipment was purchased at a soaring cost of $75,000 (old equipment broke more than a year ago), but there is no back up if this equipment goes down.
· A full dental suite with 2 setups to provide care was generously donated by Dr. Bill and Mrs. Mary O‘Shaughnessey, but we are still looking for a Head CT scanner for dental, ENT and oral surgery.
Several missions have been completed, and a new one (with over 20 physicians) is planned for March 2018. There is still so much more that needs to be done in order to help prevent disabling sickness and, in many cases, death. 
We are sincerely grateful for your interest and help as we begin to launch a series of new campaigns!!!!
If everyone gives a little, and encourages others to do the same, we can create a

to accomplish new medical missions goals for 2018.
Geometric progression sounds like complex geometry, but it's simple math. By ONE person asking 20 others for $1, and then those 20 asking 20 of their friends to donate, and those 20 others do the same... ALL OF A SUDDEN $20 TURNS INTO $168,420 with only 4 levels of people giving.

#1 Project: Renewable energy for the hospital.
More than 25% of the budget goes to electric generators run by gasoline, as there is no reliable electric grid in this area. The gasoline generators also pollute the air of Awka causing respiratory problems. Providing solar-energy generators would reduce hospital costs and the savings can be invested in equipment, medicine, etc. In addition, it would improve air quality for our beautiful country of Nigeria and our planet!
#2 Project: C-Arm Fluoroscopy Unit.
Orthopedic injuries are one of the most expensive services and are very common. The hospital is in need of a C-Arm Fluororoscopy unit, estimated to cost approximately $100,000 for real-time surgeries. The hospital has a gifted surgeon whose talents are limited by the lack of sophisticated equipment. The fluroscopy unit allows a doctor to detect an injury through sharp imaging, resulting in less invasive procedures and reducing the risk of infection.
