After a succesful surgery, Monica is recovering with the loving help of Marlene. Their spirits are bolstered by the the doctors' optimisim for her recovery, however they still struggle with the daily costs of medical supplies and doctor visits. The financial burden is difficult because her medical insurance plan does not cover the majority of these expenses. Thank you so much for keeping her in your prayers, and helping her in any way you can.

It's amazing that after 7 weeks of chemo and radiation Monica still has her hair! She is weak, but has a good POV about it all. She is seeing the surgeon this week to look at the surgery date and next steps based on her 7-week preparation of intensive treatment. We are all so grateful to all of you for contirbuting to her medical costs as they are quite expensive and she doesn't have full health coverage.

Monica is in week 4 of chemo and radiation. It's harder to function; she is tired all the time. The photo we just posted is with Dora "” it's not a furry pillow "” it's a Yorkshire Terrier who sleeps on Monica's head!

It's amazing how many beings (furry ones too) are coming together to help with Monica's care "” it takes a village...

Monica is like St. Francis of Assisi in our family. Ever since we could remember she was caring for creatures big and small. Whether it was stray kittens who would end up sitting, cute posed on the bed for mom's approval to stay or it was birthing a calf with her hands at Pierce College, Monica loved animals all her life. And, they loved her. She was able to bring out animals good qualities, seeing their vulnerability and create conditions for them to feel safe. She nursed Boots, a runt kitten smaller than the palm of her hand, back to life by feeding it throughout a 24 hour period with a eye dropper. And, George the next door neighbor's German Shepherd who she walked and fed because of they couldn't due to their children's disabilities. Monica always had dogs as an adult. Currently, Dora and O'Malley are in are in her life, however, she wanted to take care of other people's animals and founded BioVet, a Veterinary laboratory, in 1996 located in the San Fernando Valley.

Three years ago, Monica had complications to a thyroid surgery that led to a decline in her health. Because of damage to her parathyroid during that surgery, hospitalizations and medications, Monica lost her veterinary laboratory. Unable to work, she lost her home and now is facing another major medical issue "” cancer.

She has begun radiation and chemo therapy and will have surgery in 6 weeks. The staging of her cancer is a T3 out of T4. It has not reached any nearby organs or tissues." Her insurance pays 80% and she has no supplemental insurance. She is looking at a treatment period of about 10-12months.

Please select a circle of giving that works best for you. If we haven't created a level of giving, you can give whatever your financial means and give it an animal circle name in honor of Monica!

From the depths of our hearts, her parents, her sisters Mariellen & Marcia, her partner Marlene and all her close friends thank you for your kindness in giving to Monica's care. May everyone have access to the health care they need.
