Transitioning Isn't Cheap: Help Shane

If you know Shane you know a guy that would do anything to help a friend, lend an ear or give a bear hug. You might have seen Shane's face around as he was recently featured on the University of Missouri's homepage in an article following his transition and involvement on campus. He raised a lot of awareness about trans* identity and trans* inclusiveness at Mizzou. He also is super involved and you might have seen him when he was a Summer Welcome leader...or volunteering at MU LGBTQ Resource Center... or getting tapped into Mystical 7... or heard his voice on InsideOUT, the campus LGBTQ radio show. Basically, his life opens doors for others.

Now Shane needs our help. We all know that medical bills are expensive, but transitioning even more so. Shane needs funds so that he can continue to transition in the way he chooses, and the operations and treatments that he has selected to complete are costly, even with insurance. While he has a loving family, it's not in the cards to fund these services and what he makes at his part-time job (while balancing school and involvement) isn't enough. In order to get the best coverage (MU has amazing trans* healthcare) he would like to start before he graduates --so he doesn't have long to get the money together. (His student insurance will cover these services, while his family's will not---once he graduates prices will increase.)

This is where you come in. Has Shane ever high-fived you? Thrown you a smile? Made you holler at the campus drag show? Inspired you? Do you call yourself an ally? Do you just have $5 to spare?! Forgo the fancy coffee today or that oversized burrito for one day, pack a bagged lunch and give a little (or a lot) to help a guy that deserves the best.

While we fully believe that this amount of money will barely cover services, any funds not utilized by Shane for transitioning will be donated to an organization that assists trans* individuals.
