Dear Valued Friends,

My name is Jamie Lynn Macchia. I am the former Miss Staten Island 2012 and Miss Greater New York 2013. On November 10th, I was crowned Miss Staten Island 2014, becoming the first woman to achieve the title twice in the pageant’s 48-year history. I am humbled, honored, and ready to use this crown, once again, to make a difference.
I started my journey as a local titleholder in the Miss America system with a specific platform, “The Make-A-Wish Foundation: Kids For Wish Kids.” It was through my support of other events that I became educated about the more extensive needs of children with critical illnesses – specifically cancer. Of the already small amount of federal funding for cancer research, only 4% is allocated for all childhood cancers combined. The number of pediatric cancer cases has risen 29% in the past 20 years. Still, treatments have not changed significantly in more than a decade and cure rates for some pediatric cancers remain below 50%. It is because of these eye-opening facts, that I expanded my platform to “HOPE: Inspiring Action Against Pediatric Cancer.”

I am now diligently working to put together a fundraiser that will not only benefit a worthy charity, but also serve as a way to educate the community about my platform. In March 2012, I hosted “We Dance Dreams,” a dance performance benefit that raised $9,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This year, I chose the Pediatric Cancer Foundation as the beneficiary for “The H.O.P.E. Project,” which will be a variety show at the College Of Staten Island on March 29th, 2014.

I am asking for your assistance. In order to ensure that 100% of the proceeds from this event can be donated to the Pediatric Cancer Foundation, I am looking for sponsors to cover basic expenses such as (but not limited to): the venue, programs, & t-shirts for participating performers. With these expenses totaling over $5000, I am in need of help from generous, community-oriented people, such as you. I am asking you to please consider sponsoring my benefit to help me, along with the talented performers of our community, help others.

Thank you for your consideration! No child and their family should have to suffer the horror, pain and despair of pediatric cancer. The eradication of this devastating disease depends on groups such as the Pediatric Cancer Foundation and the generosity of people like you. With your help, we can eliminate pediatric cancer!
