Miracle Meyah

Donation protected

On February 12, 2015 Meyah Stevens was born a perfectly healthy baby girl weighing in at 5lbs 6oz. Her dad is Jacob Stevens and her mother is Ashley Reardon.

Meyah tested positive for the RSV virus on Monday, March 2, but was sent home. They returned to the hospital with her the next day and she was admitted in Quincy, IL. The following evening (Wednesday) she took a turn for the worse. Her lungs were filling up with fluid so that she couldn't breathe. They lost her twice while trying to intubate her for helicopter transport, another time during flight, and thankfully were able to bring her back each time.

Meyah was transported by lifeflight to a children's hospital (Cardinal Glennon) two hours away in St. Louis, MO. Doctors struggled hard all day Thursday to keep her heart and lungs working and were forced Thursday afternoon to put her on life support. She stayed on support for 7 days until she had to be taken off due to two massive brain bleeds. She survived coming off the life support machine (which was doing the job of heart, lungs, and kidneys) yesterday, 3/11, but had to undergo immediate brain surgery to stop the bleeding and reduce the pressure.

Meyah is now having seizures but is otherwise showing signs of strength and brain activity. She has beaten the odds already times beyond number and she has proven to be a miracle in the eyes of her doctors. We have been told three times to say our goodbyes and she has refused to give up. She is facing a minimum of 2 months in the hospital and has made it past the most crucial time after the surgery (24hrs).

Her parents have made our whole family so proud with the strength they have had throughout this entire process. Meyah's dad, Jacob, hasn't had his job long enough to get paid leave and they are two hours from home. This is our brother's first child but he also has three other step-children to take care of with Ashley through this experience.

We are the sisters (Lisa, Chris, Liz) creating this for them so they won't have anything else to worry about; this is the last thing we want them to have to think about. Anything will help them right now. This is a surprise for them, and we cannot wait to be able to show them and let them know they have one less thing on their plate.
