Miracle For Doris - Lung Transplant

Donation protected
My mom (Doris) is 61 years old and over the last 16 months has been diagnosed with an extremely rare, terminal lung disease called, Pulmonary Veno-Occlusive Disease (PVOD). [Not to be confused with CPOD that is commonly caused by smoking.] Mom has been working with a team of doctors at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN for over a year now. At first, her doctors were baffled at her symptoms, but after a battery of very invasive testing they eventually diagnosed her with PVOD. Statistically, people diagnosed with PVOD only live 2 to 3 years unless they are healthy enough to receive a lung transplant. It is not known what causes PVOD and there is no known cure. This is why her doctors have recommended she undergo a double lung transplant as soon as a pair of compatible lungs become available.

Mom's Story in Short
: Mom was born in Minnesota and grew up in a very abusive, dysfunctional family, but she rose above it with her faith in Jesus. By the age of 18 she was married and pregnant with her oldest child, Sheila. Mom then gave birth to 4 other children, Susie, Caleb, Sarah (died at only 1 year of age), and lastly, her youngest, Matthew. She is married to the most wonderful dad and husband, Randy who has been with her step-by-step through this frightening journey and trial.

God's hand has truly been upon her life enduring a difficult childhood in a dysfunctional home, the hurtful abandonment and divorce from her first marriage and the loss of her youngest daughter. Through it all, I can say that each and every day she rises to give thanks to God for all He has blessed her with in life.

Some of those blessings include her 3 grandkids and 3 great-grandkids who love and need their grandma! She has worked hard her whole life, but shortly after her lung disease diagnosis the company that she had worked for over 25 years terminated her employment forcing her into a more affordable health insurance plan that sadly won't fully cover this life or death need for new lungs.

Her Life Passions: My mom is and has always been passionate for her family first and foremost. She has never placed anything above or before her family - we are all who we are today because of her selflessness - always going without so that we could have what we need. It is because of her dedication in prayer for each of us that we are bonded together with a cord that cannot be broken. This is why we need her with us.

Mom loves reaching and helping people all over the world. She has faithfully raised money and personally donated financial support for an East African orphanage for over 15 years. She also gives her support and volunteers her time to local Christian ministries and nursing homes, but as always, her family comes first and her greatest passion is to give her life and time to her grandchildren!

The Need: Only 1 in 10 million Americans get PVOD lung disease. Because there is no known cure her doctors have recommended a double lung transplant. She is in the best hands possible at The Mayo Clinic, which performs approximately 12-15 lung transplants each year with the highest success rate and longevity rate nationwide. Mom was officially added to the national donor waiting list in early June 2017.

It was only after she was on the list to receive her miracle lungs that her insurance company now informed her that there are certain "non-covered, uninsured" expenses related to the surgery and after-care. This includes thousands of dollars in uninsured deductibles, as well as the required 3-month stay in the Mayo Clinic post-transplant. This leaves us with a shortfall which is likely to exceed $30,000! Thankfully, the rest is covered by insurance.

Here is where we need your help. Mom needs a miracle donation for her miracle lungs from generous people who could help her live long enough to fulfill her destiny and help raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and continue to touch the lives of so many people in all aspects of her life. Please consider donating generously. The world is enriched by each and every day that her lungs (or her new lungs) breathe deeply of this life. Please help us reach our goal! Thank you for all your prayers and support.
