Rally Around Minka the Rottie

Minka's had a rough go -- two major surgeries (now a third one pending), a tumor on her paw, countless infections, rounds of antibiotics and steroids -- and yet has unfailingly been a sweet, easy-going pup (who inexplicably still loves going to visit the vet).

In March 2018, I rushed her through emergency after noticing that she was stumbling and bleeding without any clear cause. After a battery of tests, Minka was diagnosed with immune-mediated thrombocytopenia, a rare auto-immune disorder that affects her platelet levels and prevents blood from clotting.

Thankfully within the same month, her platelet levels were stabilized with specialized treatment and medication. She was almost in the clear!

Unfortunately, on April 18th, 2018 while out for a walk Minka tore her right CCL (ACL) in her knee and is currently unable to stand or support herself. 

She desperately needs surgical repair, but cannot undergo it at this time due to current medication (prednisone) for her platelets that are still stabilizing. In the interim, her orthopedic surgeon and physical therapist have recommended a custom-fit brace that should help her to stand independently.

Currently, she is in a temporary cast until her new brace arrives, and hopefully she will be well enough for surgical repair soon.



All funds raised through this on-going campaign will go towards the already considerable costs of Minka's vet visits, diagnostic testing, specialist consultations, ongoing treatment, knee brace, and TPLO surgery.
