On September 30, 2017, my daughter Mina was thrown from a horse and suffered a catastrophic spinal cord injury. Since October 17th, she has been undergoing daily, intensive rehabilitation at the renown Shepherd Center in Atlanta. She fights hard every day for restoration. She is making progress, but there is still much work to be done. Currently, she has graduated to the outpatient program (day program) which is more independent. To fully wage her battle for Recovery, Rehabilitation and Restoration, Mina really needs to enter "Beyond Therapy."
Beyond Therapy® is a rigorous, activity-based program designed to help people with a variety of neurological disorders improve lifelong health, minimize secondary complications and get the most from any new neural links to their muscles. This type of program is ideal for Mina, yet not covered by insurance.
As Mina begins her new normal outside of the rehabilitation facility, additional assistance is needed in other areas. Modifications are needed in her home to accommodate this lifestyle change and provide easier access. Periodic caregiver support is needed as she transitions from Atlanta back home in the coming months and becomes re-acclimated to living independently. And assistance is needed as she prepares to re-enter the workforce.
