Mimi's Breast Cancer Support Fund

Donation protected
Mimi was diagnosed with Breast Cancer Stage  IIB on January 9th, 2018. This diagnosis was a shock to her, Jiri--her soulmate, her two-sisters, brother, parents, and friends. Being 37, this is not something one sees as a possibility. However, this awful disease does not see color, race, creed, sex, or age. Cancer strikes so many people and directly affects all who support and love them.

Mimi moved to Austin two-years ago in 2016 to be with Jiri, and within these two years, she cared for her Auntie in Fort Worth who was battling Pancreatic Cancer and lost the fight in April 2017. When Mimi was diagnosed, the terrible loss of her Aunt was fresh, and her family was dismayed that they would be faced with fighting this battle again.

But, as those who know Mimi understand, an integral part of Mimi’s character is that of someone who acts and doesn’t react. Her first thought upon her diagnosis was to find out how she could first use this tragedy to aid others. So, as part of her prep for treatment she proactively cut her hair and donated it to Locks of Love, a charity that makes wigs for children who are battling the same fight as her.She also received fertility treatments to reserve her eggs, which will give her and Jiri the opportunity to create the family that they believe is still within their reach even though it is now brutally set aside due to this invasive disease.

Unfortunately, along with the emotional impact that is brought on with a diagnosis, a financial burden arises as well. Her fertility treatments for hormones and surgery costs $15,000, and the chemotherapy costs an upward of $17,000-$19,000 per treatment and $700 per nausea medication. The chemotherapy treatments she will require 16 times!

With Mimi and Jiri depending on one income since doctor visits, surgeries, and treatments alone have put Mimi’s career on hold, her friends and family identify their struggles and are asking you to help in this fight. She is always the one who is taking care of everyone else, and it’s our turn to help her battle Cancer!
