Fundraising for Mike's Music

Sono Michele e ho 25 anni.
Ho scoperto questa piattaforma tramite mia sorella e ho pensato che potesse essere un mezzo interessante per poter comunicare la mia storia e la mia musica a molte persone.
Chiedo il vostro aiuto per realizzare uno dei miei più grandi sogni: vivere di musica e completare i miei studi al Berklee College of Music di Boston!

Ho cominciato a suonare la chitarra all’età di 9 anni prendendo lezioni da un maestro nella mia città natale (Mazara del vallo). Da quel momento non ho mai smesso!
Tuttavia, all'età di 8 anni la mia vita è iniziata a cambiare. Ho avuto un distacco di retina che mi ha portato alla perdita dell'occhio destro e all'età di 13 anni mi ritrovai a vedere 1/10 dal mio unico occhio vedente. Si trattava di una brutta malattia degenerativa che non avrebbe fermato il suo corso.
Durante gli anni dell’adolescenza dovetti lottare parecchio contro questa malattia che, nonostante diversi interventi chirurgici, a 18 anni mi portò alla cecità.

Mi sono sentito un po' tradito dalla vita. I sogni, le speranze di tornare a vedere erano vanificate. 
Era una malattia bastarda,  una di quelle malattie che prima o poi mi avrebbe accecato gli occhi. Ma, ringraziando Dio, non acceca né il cuore, né l'anima... due elementi fondamentali per poter fare musica!

Grazie all'affetto di alcune persone, però, ho imparato a godere di mille altre cose che la vita poteva offrirmi, cose per cui la vista non era necessaria.
La musica chiaramente è sempre stata al mio fianco, come una compagna che avesse sempre il tempo per abbracciarmi.

A 17 anni iniziai a comporre cercando di dare voce a tutto quello che mi frullava dentro.

Nel 2015 mi sono laureato in interpretariato e comunicazione presso l'Università IULM di Milano (a cui devo molto) imparando molto bene l’inglese e lo spagnolo.
In quegli anni lo studio della musica nonostante fosse meno costante era sempre presente.
Anche se decisi di studiare lingue, nel mio cuore c’era sempre l’idea di dedicarmi completamente alla musica. 

Dopo la laurea, incontrai due nuovi grandi maestri con cui iniziai a studiare la musica jazz. Per quanto io non mi consideri affatto un musicista jazz, ho imparato moltissime cose grazie a questo genere.
Allo stesso tempo, in quei mesi volli provare a portare avanti un sogno nel cassetto che avevo da molto tempo: studiare al Berklee College of Music.
Da ragazzino ne avevo sentito parlare spesso e una parte del mio cuore era sempre rimasta legata a questo sogno. Provai l’audizione e fui ammesso vincendo anche una piccola borsa di studio.

Iniziai a frequentare il primo semestre a Boston a Gennaio del 2017 e fu un’esperienza che mi stravolse la vita in tutti i sensi. Ho imparato a vivere da solo in una realtà completamente diversa da quella dove sono sempre stato. In un anno ho imparato cose che prima consideravo fantascienza.
Ad esempio, non avrei mai creduto che da cieco sarei stato in grado di poter registrare e produrre in autonomia utilizzando Pro Tools, uno dei software più importanti per registrare musica. Ho imparato anche a scrivere la musica, permettendo agli altri musicisti di leggere  le mie idee e poterle suonare per me. E’ stato emozionante registrare due amici, un sassofonista e un pianista che hanno interpretato il mio arrangiamento di uno standard molto famoso.
Oltre a questo, anche il mio modo di suonare pian piano sta assumendo un linguaggio diverso. Stare in un luogo dove ci sono 5000 musicisti è un’esperienza fenomenale per chi ama la musica.

Arrivando al dunque, se ho deciso di fare un appello su Go fund me è perché vorrei portare avanti il sogno della musica. Finora ho sempre studiato e ho avuto poche possibilità di guadagno da questa arte. Ho sempre ricevuto un grandissimo supporto da parte della mia famiglia e per questo sono immensamente grato.
In tutta onestà, il primo anno è stato complicato ma grazie a una piccola borsa di studio che ho vinto tramite Umbria Jazz e un’altra che ho vinto tramite la Siae, ho frequentato il primo anno a Boston con molta più serenità. 
Tramite la laurea in lingue mi hanno anche convalidato un intero semestre al Berklee e in totale è come se ne avessi già compiuti 3. Mi restano altri 5 semestri per completare il percorso di laurea.
Purtroppo, nonostante la mia famiglia finora mi abbia sempre supportato, mi sento responsabile e in debito per queste spese perché la retta annuale è molto alta e per loro diventa sempre più difficile.

Dato che ho prodotto un album musicale e un demo album, ho pensato di poter pubblicizzare i lavori realizzati finora tramite questa piattaforma in modo da potervi offrire qualcosa e ricevendo in cambio il vostro supporto.
Non ho ancora pubblicato la mia musica su piattaforme come Spotify o iTunes perché da solo non sono ancora stato in grado di farlo (se qualcuno è in grado di darmi una mano, anzi, mi dica!) ma, vi prometto che troverete la mia musica online prima possibile.

Il supporto economico che vi chiedo e di cui avrei bisogno è di 30.000$ in totale. Il resto, avendo già una borsa di studio annuale da 10.000$ posso continuare ad affrontarlo con l’aiuto della mia famiglia.
Il costo totale che dovrei affrontare ogni anno tra scuola, vitto e alloggio è di 60.000$ per 4 anni.


So che purtroppo si tratta di una cifra non molto bassa, però, spero che la mia storia vi abbia entusiasmato e che vogliate darmi il vostro aiuto.

I’m Michele and I’m 25.
I discovered this platform through my sister and I have thought that it could be an interesting tool in order to communicate my music and my story to many people.
I ask for your help to achieve one of my greatest dreams: working and living of music.

I started playing guitar when I was 9, taking lessons from a guitar teacher in my hometown, Mazara del vallo. From that moment I’ve never stoped.

However, when I was 8, my life started changing…
I had a retina detachment in my right eye and when I was 13 I became visually impaired… I was able to see 1/10 from my left eye. It was a very bad degenerative disease that would have not stoped its evolution.
When I was a teenager I fought a lot against this disease. Despite lots of surgeries when I was 18, I became completely blind.
I felt cheated by life itself… My dreams and my hopes to have my sight back vanished completely.
It was a bastard disease, one of those that soon or later makes your eyes blind but, thanks goodness, it cannot make your heart and your soul blind, two important elements to make music.

Through the love that I’ve had from some people, I learned to appreciate and enjoy life for many other things that it could give me, things which sight is not necessary.

Obviously, music has been always by my side, like a girlfriend who always had time to hug me.

When I was 17 I started composing, giving voice to all my thoughts.

I graduated in languages studying at IULM University in Milan, which I feel very grateful for. I am now fluent in the English and Spanish language.
In those years my music studies were always part of my daily activities even though I was a bit less constant.
Even though I was studying something else, in my heart I was always considering the idea to dedicate my life completely to music.

After my graduation I met two amazing guitar teachers and I started exploring Jazz Music. Even though I don’t consider myself a Jazz Musician, I have to say that I learned a lot of new things thanks to this genre.
At the same time, during those months, I wanted to carry on a dream that I had with me for a long time: going to study at Berklee College Of Music.
When I was younger, I heard of it and I kept this dream with me until finally I decided to audition. I’ve been accepted and I also won a small scholarship.

I started attending my first semester in Boston in January 2017 and it was an experience that changed my life totally in many point of views. I learned living on my own in a reality completely different from where I used to be.
In one year I have learned things that I used to consider fantasy. For instance, I couldn’t believe that I would have be able to record and produce on my own working on ProTools, one of the most important recording software in the music industry.
I also learned to write and transcribe music in order to let other musicians interpretate my ideas and play them for me. It was very exciting when I recorded two friends of mine, a saxophonist and a pianist that interpreted my arrangement of a popular jazz standard.
More over, even my guitar playing is improving and is developing a different approach. Living in a place with 5000 musicians it is an unbelievable experience for those who love music.

Getting to the point, if I decided to make an appeal to go fund me is just because I’d love to carry on with my music dream.
Until now I have always studied and I had just few occasions where I earned from this wonderful art. I have always received a huge support from my family and I feel immensely grateful for that.
Being honest, my first year it was complicated but, thanks to a small Berklee scholarship that I got through Umbria Jazz and another small scholarship that I got through the SIAE, everything has become much easier and affordable.
Thanks to my graduation, I have got the chance to transfer 18 credits which is a little bit more of a full time semester. So, it is like I completed 3 semesters in total and from this moment I have to complete 5 more semesters to graduate.
Unfortunately, despite the fact that my family has always supported me, I feel responsible and in debit for all of this because every year the school bill becomes higher and higher and for my family it gets more complicated.

Since I have produced a music album and recently I’ve been working to another demo album, I have considered to advertise the things I’ve done through this platform; in this way I could have the opportunity to give you something in order to receive in exchange your support.
I haven’t pubblished my music online on platforms like iTunes or Spotify, because I don’t know how to do it on my own… Actually if someone has some suggestion it is well accepted. In any case I promise that you’ll find my music online as soon as possible.

The economic support that I ask you is 30.000$ in total. I can pay the other part of my bill statement through my family support and through my 10.000$ Scholarship that Berklee gives me every year. The total bill I should pay between school, accommodation and meals is 60.000$ every year per 4 years.

I know the amount of money I ask for it is not a low quantity, but I hope that my story has been interesting to you in order to let you contribute and being part of this dream.
