Help Michele, Mother of 5

Hi Everyone! 

I wanted to update you with mom’s recovery. After 3 months of being at UPENN and then Good Shepard Rehab, mom finally came home to us on October 22nd. She spent a total of 6 weeks on the ventilator, and 2 weeks on EMCO. She pushed through against all odds, and we are so happy to finally have her home! 

She’s home receiving nurse, OT and PT. She’s also on oxygen, but slowly weaning down the amount of liters she has to take in. The rest is up to her now to rebuild her strength and stamina! She also has a left foot drop that we hope, over time, the nerves will repair themselves. 

The entire family has a long road to recovery, not only our physical and emotional well-beings, but financially as well. My dad took a 4 month medical family leave, and the state still hasn’t processed that claim. He has just returned to work, but without an income for those few months he had to borrow against his 401 to cover bills and daily expenses. My oldest brother, Alex came home leaving his job in Hawaii/Minnesota to help his 3 teenage sisters run the household. Several immediate family members also took an active role in supporting us, while Dad visited Mom EVERDAY in the hospital and rehab. Now the bills are starting to come in for that three month hospital/rehab stay, for the recovery expenses such as the nurse, OT, PT, therapy, oxygen tanks, the leg brace, etc... 

We would like to thank each and every one of you for your continued prayers and generosity during this difficult time for our family. The support has been extremely overwhelming, but not surprising knowing the person my mom is.
