<div>In 2020, Michael was diagnosed with a 7cm huge frontal lobe brain tumour after a seizure. Surgery revealed the tumour can never be entirely removed due to its complexity and location, but the best team of Doctors at Queen Square removed as much as they could, giving us the best few years to enjoy exciting new job opportunities, celebrate my 30th birthday, travel parts of Italy and enjoy holidays in Devon, our fave.

<div>3 years past and the news came that through 6 monthly monitoring MRI's specialists could see the tumour had grown at a rapid rate. Michael was rushed to surgery for another ear to ear cut, and another 52 staples, followed by a harder to recover from surgery. The next few days were a devastatingly hard wait, which ended with the heartbreaking worst news that the tumour had upgraded, and Michael now had stage 3 brain cancer. 6 weeks of daily gruelling radiotherapy followed, before an entire year of chemotherapy which have both left their mark on Michaels mental and physical health.

<div>Michael is now monitored by an incredible team at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, with MRI's every 3 months and we try our best to navigate through the struggles the brain damage the tumour has caused. We often find ourselves living in periods of 3 months at a time, painfully waiting for the next scan results. We have recently been lucky enough to become part of the Whole Geonome Sequencing programme, meaning we will be able to explore future trials and potential medication. This costs hundreds of thousands.

<div>Brain tumours receive a disproportionately low amount of research funding compared to other cancers, receiving approximately 1% of the national cancer research budget in the UK, despite being a significant cause of death. This underfunding has led to outdated treatments and limited progress, with no new treatments approved since 1999. Despite this underfunding, brain tumours are the biggest killer of children and adults under the age of 40.

<div>We absolutely have to try to make a difference and that is why we are raising money to donate to the lovely team at The Brain Tumour Charity, the most incredible charity accelerating cures for all brain tumours, driving the best lifelong care and raising our global voices.
