Even in this affluent region of our wealthy nation, lots of people just can’t afford the health care they desperately need. I started Metro Area Advanced Practice Healthcare to address this crisis in the most direct way possible, with a vision of midwife-driven reproductive healthcare for everyone and anyone, regardless of their ability to pay. Making this simple but ambitious vision a sustainable reality? That’s where your donation comes in.
Metro Area Advanced Practice Healthcare provides unique reproductive healthcare, gender affirming care, and early medication abortion in the Washington, DC metro area. Our model is "need-blind", which means we provide essential care and services for everyone who needs them, period. Some pay more, some pay what they can, and some can’t pay at all, so they pay nothing...but all are given the medical care and services they need.
In its first 90 days of opening, Metro Area Advanced Practice Healthcare has donated over $6300 of services to patients who are unable to pay for all or part of their care. We have applications pending with several area funds that assist with the cost of abortion and other healthcare services; if these applications are approved, this would indeed help us with some of these costs. We have not yet been accepted to receive these funds, however, and even if we are, these funds could not be used to help replenish our reserves that have been used to fund patients who have already been seen.
If we do not find a way to fund this part of our operations, we face the possibility of being forced to limit the free and low-cost care services we provide to our patients. Your donation will help us ensure that nobody gets turned away, and will help bridge the gap between our model of equitable health care for all and the systems of financial support we’re presently trying to secure for the future.
Any funds above and beyond what is immediately needed will go toward equipping the office for a same-day IUD service.
Nobody can fix our nation’s health care inequities on their own...but as a health care professional, I absolutely can help anyone who needs my help, one at a time. I’ve created a space where they know they can be treated safely with unconditional respect, dignity, and professionalism, no matter how many other places have turned them away for whatever reasons. It’s not a lot, but for each patient I see, it’s everything.
